Box with the word "unlistening" written on it.

An old friend of mine, who I first met at the two Los Angeles record shows over twenty years ago, just dropped a box of records off at my store. At first I thought he wanted to sell me some, but he just gave them to me, saying he didn’t want to store them anymore and it was either my store or the thrift store. He’s Japanese and used to collect singer-songwriter LP’s(SSW as we say in the biz). Though he was mostly a collector, he also used to send records to Japan to sell in a friend’s store on consignment, though I understand that store has since closed. I think this box is a combination of dollar bin specials and maybe some things he thought about sending to Japan. I think he’s come up with a new term for de-acquisition, at least as it relates to record collecting.
